Snowmageddon? Not in Foggy Bottom!

Kudos to our Watergate Safeway Staff

FOGGY BOTTOM DC — Beginning Thursday afternoon, a crush of blizzard-crazed shoppers headed to Safeway resulting in long hours of lines of people—one after another— with carts filled to the brim. As the other stores put up the “Closed Saturday” signs, our Watergate Safeway crew of ten—led by manager, Eugene A. Peters—went above and beyond to keep the shelves stocked and customers checking out.

Preparing for the worst, staffers arrived Friday at 6 am with clothes to last until Tuesday. When DDOT all but closed and not even the Washington Post was delivered, Safeway was open Saturday morning with shelves and produce being cheerfully restocked by managers and clerks alike even after prolonged and extended hours on their feet. They put OUR families before theirs to bring us a sense of normalcy when nothing else functioned. They persisted despite all obstacles to serve us. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

BLIZZARD CREW Eugene A. Peters, Store Mgr., Katina Bannister, Front End Mgr.; Donnell Sharpe, Janet Smith, Melvin Seaborne, Clerks; and Robin Jamison, Meat Mgr.; Wayne Anderson, Asst Mgr.; Chris Payne, Debbie Jones, Grocery Mgrs.; and Sean Pavlish Head Stocker.

SAFEWAY CARTS: Safeway does its best to keep carts for customers. Many customers leave them on the streets rather than returning them. PLEASE CALL Safeway (202) 338-3628 so they can recover them.

CVS PHARMACY complete with pharmacist (also located downstairs at the Watergate Mall) stayed open during Saturday’s blizzard. Many thanks to all for jobs well done! ~
