Kudos to our Water­gate Safe­way Staff

FOGGY BOTTOM DC — Begin­ning Thurs­day after­noon, a crush of blizzard-crazed shop­pers headed to Safe­way result­ing in long hours of lines of people—one after another— with carts filled to the brim. As the other stores put up the “Closed Sat­ur­day” signs, our Water­gate Safe­way crew of ten—led by man­ager, Eugene A. Peters—went above and beyond to keep the shelves stocked and cus­tomers check­ing out.

Prepar­ing for the worst, staffers arrived Fri­day at 6 am with clothes to last until Tues­day. When DDOT all but closed and not even the Wash­ing­ton Post was deliv­ered, Safe­way was open Sat­ur­day morn­ing with shelves and pro­duce being cheer­fully restocked by man­agers and clerks alike even after pro­longed and extended hours on their feet. They put OUR fam­i­lies before theirs to bring us a sense of nor­malcy when noth­ing else func­tioned. They per­sisted despite all obsta­cles to serve us. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

CVS PHARMACY com­plete with phar­ma­cist (also located down­stairs at the Water­gate Mall) stayed open dur­ing Saturday’s bliz­zard. Many thanks to all for jobs well done! ~
